JOHANNESBURG – Health Minister Aaron Motsoaledi said that while there is much to celebrate about the decrease in new HIV infections, it is disturbing to note that the # South Africa is the most affected country.
According to the National Prevalence Survey, HIV incidence and behavior of the Social Sciences and Humanities Council of South Africa, new infections have declined over the past five years, with an HIV incidence rate of 0.48% last year. 0.85%
Motsoaledi says that more work needs to be done.
"We are the number one in the world in terms of HIV infections but we are happy to see that we are finally starting to turn the tide."
Meanwhile, Sibongile Tshabalala, of the Treatment Action Campaign says the system continues to frustrate people living with HIV
"We need more political wings on HIV, especially in the provinces – not enough accommodating for people living with HIV . "
