 Welcome to Marwen

Universal Pictures released the second trailer of Welcome to Marwen with Steve Carell as Mark, a photographer who is traumatized after being brutally beaten . The attack left Mark on the road to a very long recovery. But with the help of his loved ones and his creativity, Mark is able to find inner peace.

Now the story, which is based on a true story, gets the treatment of adaptation to the big screen with Robert Zemeckis at the bar to tell this story. Watch the full trailer below.

One thing that the trailer improves from the first trailer is the use of music. Instead of having the "Walk" of the Foo Fighters, we are treated with the "Spirits" of the Strumbellas. Personally, I think the song is better suited to a film edifying with a dark tone. And we also have a better look at the dolls that will play a huge role in the story.

See, Mark uses dolls as a narration device for the miniature world that he has built. It's a bit like a therapy for him. It is therefore not surprising that Zemeckis will use a new technology to bring these dolls to life.

The fact that opens in Marwen opens in theaters in December tells us that Universal uses the movie as Oscar bait. Which seems appropriate. Zemeckis has some victories and nominations to his credit. And these types of inspirational stories tend to attract a lot of attention. Let's just hope the film is able to balance the traumatic drama with light comedy. Zemeckis also wrote the script.

Here is the official synopsis of the plot:

When a devastating attack breaks Mark Hogancamp (Carell) and erases all memories, no one expected a cure. Putting together pieces of his old and new life, Mark meticulously creates a wonderful city where he can heal and be heroic. By building an amazing art installation – a testimony of the most powerful women he knows – through his imaginary world, he draws his strength to triumph in the real world.

In a daring, wonderful and timely film of this pioneering revolution of contemporary cinema, Welcome to Marwen shows that when your only weapon is your imagination … you will find courage in the most unexpected place .

Welcome to Marwen also stars Leslie Mann, Diane Kruger, Merritt Wever, Janelle Monea, Eiza Gonzalez, and Gwendolyn Christie .

Universal will release the film on December 21, 2018.
