Donald Trump launched a new tirade against NATO and Germany during a speech to US metallurgists
The US President called the members of the US alliance "delinquents", attacked Germany for not paying enough for the organization. He said: "What I know of NATO, is that it is better for Europe than for Europe, is for us."
Mr. Trump was speaking during a visit to the United States Steel Company in Granite City in Illinois.
In a disjointed and sometimes incoherent speech of one hour – which also attacked the World Trade Organization and former President Barack Obama said: "They told me that I was too mean to NATO and too kind to Russia. "And yet, it's me who said to NATO and NATO …" Why do you buy all this gas and pay Russia billions and billions of dollars for your energy? "I raised this question … But they said it was so mean.
" Well, let me tell you what happened with NATO . Last year, they paid $ 44 billion more than they had ever paid before. And, if you look at NATO, it went that way, it went down. Everyone was delinquent. They were … not everyone but almost everyone. The United States did not have it. By the way, Germany pays 1% [of its GDP] and we pay 4.3%. You think that's good? "
The explosion follows a similar attack earlier this month when, at a NATO summit, Mr. Trump said that Germany was" totally controlled "by Russia
