The line includes both men's hooded sweatshirts and woman at $ 99 (about R1,300), jeans (about $ 99 – 1,300 R), t-shirts ($ 39 or about R514), fanny packs ($ 89.50, or just a little under R1 , 200) and some other selections, all with built-in chips. Reaction to this line does not was not universally positive, TechCrunch reporter Sarah Perez described the concept as "ridiculous", saying Tommy Hilfiger is known to experiment with their products, but sees this particular use of technology as "a loyalty program forcing customers to spend too much to join".
According to Tommy Hilfiger, the clothes all contain a "smart tag" that connects to a mobile app via Bluetooth. The app awards points for each time they wear the pants, and encourages players to collect virtual hearts based on their location in the real world. This is very similar to Pokémon Go.
The game can only be played when the clothes are in the Bluetooth range – so unless you are still wearing a full replacement suit, you will have to wear them.
The points you earn may be cashed for gift cards, signed goods, Tommy Hilfiger parade tickets, and other benefits, even though it is not known exactly how the point-to-price conversion will work
Wait, what about privacy?
Tommy Hilfiger representatives told Engadget that the tokens are encrypted and can be disabled at any time. However, it did not specify how much personal data customers are collected via the application, or what data is provided to the company.
