ILORIN – Members of the All-Progressive Congress (APC) in Kwara State said Sunday in Ilorin that they were awaiting the direction of the Senate Speaker, Dr. Bukola Saraki, on the desirability of waiving the decision. party or stay in place
The President of the APC, the Hon. Ishola Balogun-Fulani said at a crowded press conference in Ilorin that party members remain attached to Saraki and will follow his decision.
Balogun-Fulani called the APC a broken party, lamenting that the rope of unity between the members was broken due to internal quarrels and the unjustified trial of the Senate Speaker
. Called last week by the three presidents of the Senate party in the state asking Saraki to drive them out of the APC. The three party leaders were also present at the briefing of yesterday by Balogun -Fulani.
He clarified that: "Everyone has the right to express what he wants, but for us, we expect what our leader (Saraki) will decide" by quoting a Qur'anic verse to ask the president of the Senate to guide decision on the issue of defection.
Earlier, Baligun-Fulani expressed his relief, satisfaction and justification by the decision of the Supreme Court dismissing and acquitting Saraki allegations of misrepresentation of property, pointing out that the party had the same position since the beginning of the trial. years ago.
According to him, "As you know, on Friday, a panel of five people from the Supreme Court, headed by Judge Dattijo Muhammad, ruled unanimously that the Senate Speaker was innocent of the statement of claim. Assets and other charges Court of Conduct The Supreme Court also stated that the evidence presented by the prosecution was hearsay.
"As a party, we salute the Supreme Court for have made this historic judgment that represents the victory for democracy. We are pleased that the judgment has strengthened our conviction that the Speaker of the Senate is innocent of all trumped-up charges.
"You will remember that when the case started at the Code of Conduct Tribunal on September 22, 2015, I sent a press conference to alert people in Kwara State and, indeed, the Nigerians that the case was politically motivated. It was clearly a case of political witch hunt.
"During the 1018 days that lasted the trial , we made it a point to alert the audience to the twists and turns. We once feared that desperate politicians had misappropriated the Code of Conduct. We have already said that the case was controlled remotely by politicians. At the end of the 1018-day tortuous legal fireworks, we are convinced that justice has been done on the case.
"We recall that the tortuous political persecution of our leader, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, began because he exercised his constitutionally guaranteed right to stand for the office of Speaker of the Senate against the desires of Some Congressional Political Forces
"All sorts of extrajudicial strategies and unconstitutional measures were deployed to humiliate, denigrate, embarrbad and dismiss the Senate Speaker. We thank Almighty Allah for his victory and congratulate the Senate Speaker for this hard-won victory.
"As we have always argued, no political party has ever survived the war against itself, because it is now clear that the link of unity and of cohesion in the APC has been weakened, damaged, fractured and broken.
"As a party, we express our gratitude to the distinguished Senators of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, the honorable members of the Federal House of Representatives and to the entire institution of the National Assembly for having firmly supported the Senate Speaker.
"We also salute all Nigerian democracy lovers and rule-of-law believers who have stood side by side with the rule of law and democracy during the period of political persecution."
" In particular, we salute our political structure, all members of the APC in the state of Kwara and Nigeria as a whole to keep the fate with the Senate Speaker. That Allah continues to be by your side.
"Finally, we wish to reiterate and categorically declare our unconditional loyalty to the leadership of the Senate Speaker, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, CON. Come rain, come sun, we will continue to support the Senate Speaker," he said. .
