East Africa: COMESA summit, a success – President Mutharika

Lusaka – President Peter Mutharika described the recently concluded COMESA 2018 Summit of Heads of State as a success.

The president said Thursday at Taj Pamharzi Hotel in Lusaka, Zambia, when he interacted with Malawi journalists before returning home.

Mutharika Attributed Success to Groups Electing Secretary-General Chileshe Kapwepwe, Former Zambian Minister of Finance Who Succeeded Sindiso Ngwenya of Zimbabwe

He said that because of his accession to the high office, he was clear that the grouping respected the gender balance in the region.

He then said that the summit had created a platform on the theme of the COMESA summit – Towards Digital Economic Integration, the President said that Malawi had made great strides towards the use of ICT. Given that Malawi's national fiber optic project was in its second phase, many people in Malawi would have easy access to ICT services.

We are doing well on ICT and the second phase will allow many people in Malawi to easily access ICT and mobile services, "he said.
