One of the most exciting additions to iOS 12 for iPhones is called Shortcuts, a tool built into Siri to help you get things done faster. Although there are some recommended shortcuts available in the Siri settings in iOS 12, the ShortCuts application brings the Workflow feature to Siri so that you can create your own custom actions or select from the gallery shortcuts available .
The Shortcuts application is only open to developers running the beta of iOS 12 that specifically asks to try it. If you're a developer, go to the Apple Developer Downloads page and click "Request" next to Shortcuts beta . You will receive an invitation by e-mail to try the application with the help of TestFlight.
For the one I chose, my goal is to play and mix my playlist "Peter Gabriel" the command "Play Peter Gabriel" custom with Siri, who will start playing the playlist in the app Music. It will not open the Music application, which is good because it is not really necessary. I also want a widget and a home screen shortcut to do this.
Step 3: Grant Access (if necessary)
After getting the workflow, you may need to "Grant Access" to the required application or service. In my example, this would be the Apple Music activity as well as my multimedia library.
Step 4: Configure Shortcut
Each workflow will work differently, but Apple tries to make it as easy as possible to work right away, so you'll probably have to configure the workflow right away by answering a simple question or two. In my example, I have to choose a playlist. Typing "Choose" shows me a list of all my playlists; Folders appear first, followed by regular and smart playlists combined alphabetically.
After choosing one of my playlists, all I have to do is click on "Done" and the workflow will be added to your "Library" tab.
Step 5: Use your new shortcut
configure your new workflow, how do you use it? Well, you have not done advanced customization yet, so there's only so much you can do now to use the workflow. First, open the Shortcuts application and tap the workflow from the "Library" tab.
Step 6: Add and use the Shortcuts widget (optional)
By default, any new workflow that you add in the application Shortcuts will be visible in the Shortcuts widget. However, as you can see above, the home screen widget is very limited, but today's View widget is much more useful.
If you do not have 3D Touch or do not like to use it, you can scan the screen from the first page of the screen. home, lock screen or notifications window, then press "Edit" at the bottom of the "Today" page. Tap the "+" icon next to Shortcuts, then tap "Done."
Now , each time you scroll the first page of the home screen, the lock screen or the notifications window to display the screen Today, you see the widget at the bottom (you can rearrange widgets in the "Edit" screen). If you do not see your workflow right away, tap "Show more" to see the rest. To use it, just tap the workflow.
Step 7: Customize Your Shortcut (Optional)
Sometimes, Apple's default options for a workflow are not enough for the job to be done right. For example, in my example "Play Playlist", I can mix the playlist or turn off random play. To see what changes you can make, press the ellipsis icon (•••) of the workflow you want to edit in the Shortcuts application.
As you can see below, there is not much to change or modify Play Playlist "workflow." I can press "Playlist" to change the playlist, turn off "Shuffle" or mix "Songs", or repeat a song, all the songs, or none of them.Press the play button to test your changes, then press "Done" to save them. You can also open the search to search or search for other actions you can add.
This is a very simple example of what to see something more complicated, the screen shots below show what does the workflow of my shortcut look like "Calculate Tip" There is a lot to change here!
Step 8: Change your shortcut settings (optional)
When you customize your workflow, you'll probably notice the toggle icon under "Done". If you press this option to access the workflow settings, you can edit the workflow name, change its icon, customize the shortcut further, add a Siri shortcut, hide in the widget, display in the share sheet, add an icon at the home screen, share the shortcut, and more.
