Lamborghini Aventador SVJ sets a Nürburgring lap record

The German Nürburgring Nordschleife is the modern benchmark for performance cars, and Lamborghini has just broken the lap record on the 12.8 mile track. The Lamborghini Aventador SVJ – a new high-performance version of the Aventador supercar – has doubled the "Ring in 6: 44.97, making it the fastest production car to go around.

Records fall quickly at the Nürburgring. The previous record of 6: 47.3 was set by a Porsche 911 GT2 RS in September 2017. The Lamborghini test driver used for this last record, Marco Mapelli, set a record of 6:57 in a Huracán. Performance in 2016. In about two years, the record has plummeted by 10 seconds – a huge leap in the world of automotive performance.

The Adventurer SVJ was wearing camouflage because Lamborghini has not yet revealed this new model to the public. This will happen next month at the Monterey Car Week. The record race was made using Pirelli P Zero Trofeo R tires, which will be an option when the SVJ goes into production. Pirelli P Zero Corsa tires will be fitted as standard. Lamborghini also equipped the record-breaking car with cameras and telemetry. The registration has been certified by the independent firm Remak, using GPS and data from a VBOX-Racelogic data logger.

Lamborghini did not reveal much about Aventador SVJ's specifications, but said the car would have a weight-to-weight ratio of 1 horsepower per 4.36 pounds. This will be achieved in part due to lower weight, although the 6.5-liter V12 of the Aventador can also increase its power. Lamborghini also reviewed Aventador's all-wheel drive system, rear wheel steering and stability control for SVJ service

The SVJ will also feature the aerodynamic active Aerodinamica Lamborghini Attiva (ALA) system seen for the first time on the Huracán Performante. ALA uses shutters and movable channels to adjust the air flow, in order to create a supporting force that improves grip while cornering without sacrificing straight line speed. Fixed spoilers and other aerodynamic aids can generate a lot of props, but they also create a drag that can limit the maximum speed of a car. ALA is designed to offer the best of both worlds.

While the SVJ now holds the record for production cars at the Nürburgring, it does not have the overall record. A few weeks ago, Porsche introduced a modified version of its 919 Hybrid racing car that won the 24 Hours of Le Mans. In the hands of racing driver Timo Bernhard, the fast hybrid has completed the circuit in 5: 19.55. He broke the previous 35-year record of 51.58 seconds.
