New strain of ebolavirus discovered in Sierra Leone

The ranks of the ebolavirus genus increased for the first time in a decade, with the identification of a new strain in free-tailed bats in Sierra Leone. It is not yet known whether it is harmful to humans, but its discovery will help scientists better understand how the virus is hiding between outbreaks, and by extension, will help our efforts to contain them better.
