North Carolina Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson makes the news as he faces calls to resign after a video was released in which he called transgender and homosexuality “filth” .
Robinson, who is from the Republican Party, said students shouldn’t learn “transgender, homosexuality, any of that crap” in classrooms.

The remark sparked calls for his resignation as administrators and parents fight for oversight of school programs.
In the video shot in June at the Asbury Baptist Church, Robinson said: “There is no reason anyone anywhere in America should talk to children of transgender, homosexuality, all that filth. And yes, I called it dirt.

Several gay and transgender rights groups, as well as the White House, condemned his statement and called on him to resign.
According to reports, White House Deputy Press Secretary Andrew Bates of North Carolina said: “These words are disgusting and offensive. The role of a leader is to bring people together and defend the dignity and rights of everyone, not to spread hatred and undermine their own function.

The Human Rights Campaign called Robinson’s statement “shameful” and “hateful” and said he should resign. However, Robinson refused to retract on Friday.
“We will not be intimidated. We will not back down. We will not change the language,” Robinson said, according to the reports.
