A multi-million dollar lawsuit has been filed against UFC superstar Conor McGregor by a woman in his home country of Ireland.

The woman is represented by lawyer Dave Coleman of Coleman Legal Partners, who confirmed the news to MMA Fighting in a phone call Tuesday after news of the lawsuit was first reported by The Independent in Ireland. The personal injury lawsuit was filed Monday for events believed to have taken place in 2018. The woman’s mother has also filed a smaller lawsuit against McGregor, and she is also represented by Coleman in the case.

The identity of the woman and her mother and details of the allegations in the lawsuit are not being publicly disclosed due to strict privacy laws in Ireland.

“We can’t really comment on the substantive issues,” Coleman told MMA Fighting. “Suffice it to say that I represent these ladies, that we have initiated these proceedings in court, and we are satisfied that our case is well founded in court.”

McGregor, who is currently in Abu Dhabi preparing for his fight against Dustin Poirier on Saturday at UFC 257, issued a statement by his representatives after news of the trial first came to light.

“After an exhaustive investigation by the Gardaí which, in addition to interviews with the complainant, included interviews with numerous sources, obtaining witness statements, reviewing closed-circuit footage and the cooperation of Conor McGregor, these allegations have been categorically rejected, ”McGregor’s spokesperson Karen Kessler said in a statement originally published in The Independent.

“The complainant knows that the facts contradict the claims of this trial. Mr. McGregor will dispute any claims and is confident that justice will prevail. “

According to the Independent, the situation provoked by the trial involved an investigation initially conducted by An Garda Síochána, but no charges were ever brought against McGregor.

The woman involved in the lawsuit is said to have known McGregor “for many years.” In March 2019, The New York Times reported that McGregor was being investigated for sexual assault in Ireland for an alleged incident in 2018. Two months earlier, McGregor had been detained and questioned by law enforcement officials. order regarding the incident, but released pending further investigation.

Due to strict laws in Ireland, details surrounding the alleged incident have never been made public. According to the Times, the accuser said the alleged incident took place at the Beacon Hotel in Dublin, near McGregor’s hometown of Crumlin in south Dublin. In the report, McGregor was described as an “occasional guest” at the hotel, and sources claimed to have seen him visiting her before the night of the incident.

Beyond that investigation, McGregor has also addressed several other legal issues in recent years. Last September, he was questioned and released by the police in Corsica following allegations of “attempted sexual assault and sexual exhibition”. In 2019, he pleaded guilty to assault and was fined after hitting a bar manager in Ireland. In 2018, he struck a plea deal with Brooklyn prosecutors after he launched an attack on a bus full of fighters ahead of UFC 223 in April 2018.
