We’re not opposed to this Reddit bot that turns arguments into Ace Attorney videos

Someone had to do it: there is now a bot that turns Reddit arguments into scenes from Phoenix Wright: Lawyer Ace, with music and the iconic “OBJECTION!” intercuts. It is from these moments that it gets its name: objection-bot.

Users can invoke the bot by typing “! Objection-bot ”under a thread that would function as an Ace Attorney courtroom scene, and the bot will generate a video based on the messages. It’s a bit like shouting “star of the world!” but on Reddit. You can see an excellent Cyberpunk 2077– related example below:

The genius behind the bot is Reddit user oppai_suika, who was kind enough to post the source code as well. They also note in a comment that fighters number one and two are assigned to Phoenix and Edgeworth respectively, and everyone is assigned a random character. Other characters from the show appear as well, pushing the other posters or entering with takes that are too hot to handle.

The bot’s first post was four days ago, but it has been busy since. There is already a dedicated subroutine, r / Objectionbotbattles, which allows users to post the best bot results. The one that made me laugh out loud recreates the experience of being stuck in a chain of replying emails to everyone.

The bot only supports certain subreddits, but it includes all of the most important: r / Politicalcompassmemes, r / vegan, r / MechanicalKeyboards and r / JoeRogan. (In all fairness, that’s a reasonably long list.) Obviously, it supports r / aceattorney as well, and it’s been known to dramatize arguments on its source material (based on this thread) as well.

Sometimes Reddit’s arguments can feel like courtroom drama, with people bickering over the technical details, intent, and definitions of words. Now that experience has been digitized with some of our favorite video game advocates, and it is truly glorious.
