The circular structure of this image – taken by NASA's Mars reconnaissance orbiter – is called Crater of Jezero. This is the landing site chosen for the March 2020 mission and, as such, a frequent observation center from above.
NASA staff artificially colored the image, but these colors correspond to different types of sediments – notably clays and carbonates – transported in channels dug out billions of years ago, while Mars boasted of having a lot of water.
