Family of man who died of heart problems in Mississippi is asking people to get COVID-19 vaccinations after 43 hospitals in three states were unable to accept him due to full cardiac intensive care units .

Ray Martin DeMonia passed away last week in Meridian, Mississippi. He was three days away from his 74th birthday and was a well-known native of Cullman, Alabama, his family said.

DeMonia suffered from a cardiac event and emergency personnel at Cullman Regional Medical Center had to get her to the nearest available bed, located nearly 200 miles away in a Mississippi hospital.

In their obituary, DeMonia’s family urged people to get vaccinated against COVID-19.

“In honor of Ray, please get the vaccine if you haven’t, in an effort to free up resources for non-COVID-related emergencies,” the obituary reads. “He wouldn’t want another family to go through what his did.”

“Ray DeMonia was like no other,” reads his obituary.
