MOFFAT – A 61-year-old man from Moffat is in custody after allegedly shooting a man in the parking lot of Moffat Dollar General on Saturday, October 2.

On October 2, a call was received regarding a shooting in the parking lot of the Moffat Dollar General. According to Saguache County Sheriff Dan Warwick, an argument broke out between two people in a vehicle in the parking lot.

At one point, the argument escalated and the suspect, Joseph Taylor, allegedly shot the victim in the abdomen. The suspect then took Route 17 towards Alamosa with the victim still in the vehicle.

“We don’t know why the suspect drove 17 with the victim,” Warwick said. The victim called 911 at one point and deputies from the Saguache County and Alamosa County Sheriff’s Office, officers from the Alamosa Police Department and the Central Police Department and the Patrol of the Colorado State responded to the incident.

The vehicle was stopped by law enforcement in the Mosca area, where the victim was taken by ambulance to Alamosa and then transported to Colorado Springs for further treatment. Taylor was arrested by the Saguache County Sheriff’s Office on suspicion of first degree murder after deliberation with intent, first degree assault with intent, threat with a lethal weapon, reckless endangerment and unlawful discharge of a gun to fire. He is being held without bond at the Saguache County Jail
