Alan James Lothe, 94, de Newton, died on Friday, September 17, 2021 at the Park Center in Newton. A funeral service at Newton Union Cemetery will be held at a later date. The Pence-Reese Funeral Home in Newton was responsible for the arrangements. Memorials are designated in Alan’s name at the Newton Food Bank.

Alan, the son of Lewis and Ferne (Hesson) Lothe, was born April 8, 1927 in Taylors Falls, Minnesota. He was a graduate of Newton Senior High School.

On October 19, 1947, Alan married Jo Anne Lorraine Hill of Baxter, at Little Brown Church in Nashua. After farming south of Newton, Alan and Jo Anne owned and operated Lothe Feed Service for many years. Alan was a member of the Our Savior Lutheran Church and the Elks. He was a devoted father, grandfather and friend known for his wry sense of humor, and will be sadly missed by those who knew and loved him.

Alan was predeceased by his wife, Jo Anne; and his brothers, Darrell, Duane and Burton. Those left to honor Alan’s memory include his children, his daughter, Linda DeGreef of Newton; sons, James Lothe of Chicago, Ill., and Steve Lothe of West Wardsboro, Vermont; his five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and his many friends.
