County Director Dan McCoy used the news as yet another opportunity to urge the public to continue to take the virus seriously.
“While our average percent positive rates have steadily declined over the past three weeks from a recent high of 4.8%, we are still seeing far too many residents in hospital with COVID right now, including two people under 25. , “he said.” And unfortunately, another county resident lost his life due to complications from the virus. McCoy said the most recent victim was a person in their 60s, bringing to 408 the number of known deaths in the county since the start of the pandemic.
It is not known whether the person has been vaccinated or not. The county declined to release this information when announcing individual deaths, citing privacy concerns.
Albany County has confirmed 95 new cases of coronavirus and seven new hospitalizations among residents overnight. A total of 40 county residents are currently hospitalized with the virus – a net increase of five overnight.
