The last episode of “Jeopardy!” hosted by late game show legend Alex Trebek airs on Christmas Day, but the million dollar question of who will replace him remains unanswered.

The 80-year-old host’s last day at the Culver City, Calif., Studio was on October 29, just over a week before his death on Sunday morning at his Los Angeles home.

“PERIL! Episodes hosted by Alex will air until December 25, 2020,” the show said in a statement.

It’s unclear how the show will go ahead without the longtime quiz host – although some have speculated that champion Ken Jennings will take over the animation duties.

“The show does not announce any plans for a new host at this time,” they said in a statement.

Trebek has hosted over 8,200 episodes, setting a Guinness World Record for hosting the most episodes of a single game show.

He announced last year that he was diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer, but vowed he could film more episodes.

“I will fight against this and I will continue to work and with the love and support of my family and friends and with the help of your prayers,” he promised in a video posted to the time.

Trebek was hired to host the 2021-2022 season at the time of his death.

The show’s executive producer, Mike Richards, called his death “a huge loss to the ‘Jeopardy!’ “. the staff, the crew and all of Alex’s millions of fans.

“He was an industry legend that we all had the chance to watch night after night for 37 years. Working alongside him for a year and a half as he heroically continued to host “Jeopardy!” was an incredible honor, ”said Richards.

“His belief in the importance of the show and his willingness to push himself to perform at the highest level was the most inspiring display of courage I have ever seen. His constant desire to learn, his kindness and professionalism will be with us all forever.
