(WXYZ) – The northern lights are expected to be weak Friday night on Norway, but two rockets launched by NASA have created a much bigger show over hundreds of kilometers.
The rockets were launched two minutes from the Andoya Space Center in Norway as part of an experiment to study the Aurora. Two chemical tracers were released by the rockets into the Earth's ionosphere (about 200 km away) and created bright, colorful clouds, which helped the researchers track particle flow in the aurora borealis. NASA says that chemicals pose no threat to residents.
The photos of the colorful clouds are spectacular, but you have to watch the video taken by Ole Salomonsen
