ST. PETER – Newly crowned Section 2 women’s tennis team champion and State Class A qualifier, Fairmont continued her winning streak on day one of the individual tournament on Friday at the Swanson Indoor Tennis Center on the Gustavus campus Adolphus College.

The four Fairmont entrants, along with a singles net player and a Blue Earth Area doubles team, won the individual section semi-finals at 9 a.m. Wednesday inside the shaped facility. dome in St. Peter.

“Our girls are playing with a lot of confidence after becoming the first (Fairmont women’s tennis) team to reach the state tournament in 25 years on Thursday,” Cardinals head coach Laura Olsen said. “I hope we can keep that momentum going until next week.”

Fairmont teammates Claire Nemmers and Briana Joseph will hit the Gustavus Adolphus pitches on opposite sides of the elevated viewing area in a singles section semi-final on Day 2, while the Cardinals tandems twins Libby and Maggy Totzke, along with Ellie Hernes and Lauren Davis, will be in opposing doubles on Wednesday.

Only two singles nets and two doubles combinations from each section will advance to the Class A individual competition which begins at 8 a.m. on Thursday, October 28 and ends Friday, October 29 at the Reed-Sweatt Family Tennis Center in Minneapolis.

Nemmers, who scored the No.2 seed and a first round pass, will face No.3 seed Marissa Benz of Blue Earth Area in the day two singles match. Nemmers only needed a dozen games for a baker to take out Brooke Zollner of Redwood Valley in the quarterfinals, 6-0, 6-1, on Friday.

Benz won the semifinals by knocking out Leah Proehl of Maple River in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0, in the first round before defeating Kaydince Thoms of River Valley in a wire slugfest, 7-6, 7 – 5.

Joseph, who scored the No.5 seed, advanced to the semifinals by opening with a 6-0 back-to-back wins over United South Central’s Brylee Neubauer before beating River Valley’s Brooklyn Moldan on strength to ‘a 6-1, 6-1 quarterfinal decision.

Joseph will face the No. 1 seed and state-ranked Jaelyn Haler of the St. James area in Wednesday’s semi-final clash at the Swanson Tennis Center. Haler earned a first-round bypass before knocking out Addison Armstrong of Blue Earth Area in the quarterfinals, 6-3, 6-1.

Armstrong won the quarterfinals by defeating Kayla Berg of Maple River.

In the Section 2A doubles group, No. 5 seeded Libby Totzke and Maggy Totzke will face Sailor Mohlenbrock and Allison Bluedorn of the St. James area on Wednesday in the Section Semifinals at the Swanson Tennis Center .

The Totzke siblings opened the action on Friday with a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Elizabeth Romano and Lauren Hansen of USC before defeating Macy Sohre and Ally Mersman of Maple River in the quarterfinal, 6 -0, 6-0.

Mohlenbrock and Bluedorn, who secured a first-round bypass, defeated Grace Hanson and Ella Survis of Blue Earth Area in the quarterfinals, 6-3, 6-4.

Hanson and Survis reached the second round serving an opening 6-1, 7-5 loss to Ella Stoneberg and Mila Jenniges of Redwood Valley.

Ellie Hernes and Lauren Davis’s No. 3 team will face Blue Earth Area No. 2s Kylie Rosenau and Olivia Dutton in the doubles semi-finals on Wednesday in St. Peter.

Hernes and Davis knocked out Redwood Valley’s Avery Wilson and Anneliese Hammer with back-to-back first-round wins before needing a third set in the quarter-finals to advance to Day 2.

Keyana Haler and Eva Romsdahl of St. James Area won a 6-4 opening set before Davis and Hernes flip-flopped in their favor to pocket the second segment by a 6-4 margin. Davis and Hernes went on to claim three straight wins to cap a 6-2 victory in the third set.

Rosenau and Dutton, who secured a first-round pass, combined their skills on the pitch to clinch a 6-1, 6-1 quarterfinal triumph over USC’s Macy Zebro and Maya Zebro.
