Cold War Black Ops is slowly filling up with new content as its first season approaches. A new leak has hinted that some of this content is from Black Ops 4. Barebones Mode could return, and here’s what we know so far.

Black Ops Cold War Season 1 is fast approaching. When it arrives on December 10th, we’re going to see some brand new maps, weapons, and other content. It looks like some of this new Call of Duty content will tie into Black Ops 4.

Some recent tweets from Call of Duty Leaks hinted that we would see the return of Black Ops 4 fan-favorite multiplayer as part of the post-launch update. This refers to the Barebones mode which gained immense popularity among COD fans at the time.

What is Barebones Mode?

In normal Black Ops 4 multiplayer matches, you will have to choose between specialists and standard equipment. Specialized soldiers had unique abilities that would make them powerful in combat. It would make the game unbalanced, so it didn’t go well with the fans.

Barebones mode would even out the game by placing class restrictions on the abilities of specialists. It would also remove gear, body armor, operator mods, and gear. The equipment would be limited to one use per life and no recharging. Manual healing and fog of war would also be in place.

This mode has been widely praised for making matches feel like a Call of Duty classic, so its potential return is sure to thrill many Black Ops fans.

Will Barebones be in BOCW?

The fleeing rummaged through the BOCW game files and found some references to Barebones there. Mainly some audio files of the announcer speaking the name of the mode. You can hear it for yourself below:

If this mode made a comeback in Cold War Season 1, these restrictions would adapt to the new game. The changes would be minimal and the Barebones experience would be similar to what it was in the last Black Ops game.

We haven’t heard of any other Black Ops 4 content making a return in BOCW Season 1, but we may soon. Such news would ease the minds of fans who were complaining about the low number of multiplayer maps available at launch.

As these are just leaks, it should be considered that the files may have remained from when the Specialists were in Black Ops Cold War. As of yet, we have heard nothing from official Treyarch or Activision that confirms this information. Once we do, we’ll be sure to update you.
