Democratic Representative Tulsi Gabbard is urging her fellow Senate lawmakers to block President-elect Joe Biden’s choice for Office of Management and Budget (OMB) director Neera Tanden.

“Neera Tanden’s ‘think tank’ has taken millions from WallStreet, the UAE and defense contractors. She advocated taking the oil from Libya to pay for the bombs with which we destroyed their country. At the OMB, it will support more costly regime change wars and a military-industrial complex. Senators, I am calling for a NO vote, ”Gabbard said in a Twitter post.
Tanden, a former adviser to Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama, has been CEO and President of the Center for American Progress since 2011.
His opponents have pointed to the millions of dollars his think tank has taken from controversial donors such as the United Arab Emirates – a country known for its poor human rights record.

Tanden and Gabbard have had dust before, including in 2016 when they swapped beards on Twitter about their disagreement over an intervention in Syria.
The two appeared to bury the hatchet earlier this year, after Tanden praised Gabbard, a former Democratic president, hopefully, for endorsing Biden’s post.
But the Hawaii House member’s latest comments regarding Tanden threaten to derail Biden’s choice, especially with the balance of power in the Senate so close.

Tanden must garner 51 votes in the Senate to be confirmed as the OMB, but Democrats are currently lagging Republicans 48-50. Democrats hope to win two seats in the Georgia runoff in March, which would then cast the tiebreaker to Vice President-elect Kamala Harris for a decision.
