All Major Northern Hospitals Schedule Joint Press Conference on Situation ‘Regarding’ COVID-19

COLUMBIA, SC (WYFF / WIS) – All major health systems in the upstate will unite for a virtual press conference to take stock of what organizers have called the “evolving COVID-19 situation and concerning “.

Prisma Health’s director of media relations said in a statement Wednesday evening that the Zoom briefing was scheduled for noon Thursday.

Participants will include:

  • AnMed Health
  • Bon Secours St. Francis Health System
  • Prisma Health
  • Autonomous regional health care
  • Spartanburg Regional Health System

Epps said clinical executives will provide insight into what they see within their organizations and be available to answer questions.

Epps noted that the briefing will focus on the current state of capacity and resources, and will not involve any announcements related to vaccination requirements for staff.

A similar virtual press conference was scheduled for Midlands Health Systems on Friday, according to Epps.

Also on Wednesday, DHEC’s director of public health, Dr Brannon Traxler, held a Zoom briefing that highlighted the importance for more South Carolinians to be vaccinated against COVID-19, now that it is fully approved by the Food and Drug Administration.

Traxler said the FDA made vaccine approval possible by bringing in more resources and personnel to conduct research and reviews, while making vaccine approval a top priority.

She stressed that no shortcuts had been cut in the expedited process.

“It’s gone through all of the rigorous checks and balances that anything FDA approved goes through,” Traxler said.

“If you are on the fence about vaccinations, take this as further evidence that they are safe and effective,” she said.
