The kickoff of the festival comes from the four corners of Bob Boilen's brain. Held in the Central Presbyterian Church on Tuesday night, the Tiny Desk Family Hour was an intimate showcase for nine Tiny Desk alumni, including 2016 Small Office Contest winner Gaelynn Lea; interpreter of the rising soul Cautious Clay; Mountain Man, folk trio of North Carolina; Brooklyn rapper Leikeli47; "Emo puppet group" Fragile Rock; John Paul White (formerly of The Civil Wars duo); the bilingual folk singer Gina Chavez; singer and pianist Amanda Palmer; and former Fugees member Wyclef Jean. Over the next few weeks, we will be rolling out videos of the show highlighting the tracks of each performer.
