Allegheny and Westmoreland counties recorded the highest number of covidus cases in about a month on Tuesday, according to state and local health departments.
There have been 348 additional cases of covid-19 (166 confirmed, 182 probable) in Allegheny County, the first time that more than 300 additional cases have been reported this month. The dates for positive tests ranged from March 1 to Monday, with ages ranging from 7 months to 93 years, with a median age of 37. Tuesday’s tally was the most reported case since February 9, when 405 cases were reported.
In Westmoreland County, another 100 cases of covidus (23 confirmed, 77 probable) have been reported. The county had spent more than 30 days with double-digit cases before Tuesday. The number of new cases is the highest since February 3, when 115 cases were reported.
The total number of cases in Allegheny County is now 78,705. The total number of cases in Westmoreland County is now 27,303.
Two deaths in Allegheny County and one in Westmoreland County were reported on Tuesday.
Deaths in Allegheny County ranged from November 24 to December 28, with the Allegheny County Health Department noting that the deaths were from a state import of data from the electronic reporting system. death. Both were 90 years old and one was associated with a long-term care facility.
Death totals in Allegheny and Westmoreland counties now stand at 1,703 and 684, respectively.
According to the state’s Covid-19 Vaccine Dashboard, 142,820 people are partially covered for covid vaccination (have received one dose) in Allegheny County, while 93,824 are fully vaccinated ( received two doses). There are 36,940 people partially and 25,441 people fully covered for covid vaccination in Westmoreland County.
Covid hospitalizations in the two counties played out differently with Tuesday’s figures. Allegheny’s current number of hospitalizations was 164, five more than on Monday. Westmoreland’s number was 114, down six from Monday. Allegheny County began March with 169 patients hospitalized with covid-19. Westmoreland County started the month with 111 hospitalized.

The state recorded 2,975 additional covid cases and 40 reported deaths on Tuesday, according to the State Department of Health.
Tuesday’s number of cases (1,964 confirmed, 1,011 probable) was the second largest of the month so far, with the largest being March 4 with 3,028. Of the deaths reported Tuesday, 29 are from March, 10 are from February. and one in January.
The new figures bring the total of covid cases in Pennsylvania to 953,136. The total of deaths is now 24,396.
Hospitalizations for covid-19 were 1,530 on Tuesday, up 28 from Monday. The state started the month with 1,715 hospital patients and that number has generally declined, with just two days in March showing an increase in hospitalizations.
As of Tuesday, there were 1,085,121 people partially and 981,209 fully covered for the covid vaccination, according to the state’s covid-19 vaccine dashboard.
Statewide, six counties reported at least 100 cases of covid on Tuesday. Philadelphia County had the most cases with 473. Allegheny (348), Bucks (144), Lancaster (128). Montgomery (110) and Westmoreland (100) round out this list.
In western Pennsylvania, Allegheny and Westmoreland counties had the most cases in the region.
