PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – The Department of Health has new information on where people in Allegheny County may have been exposed to people diagnosed with measles.
In total, five cases of measles have been confirmed in the region since the beginning of the year. Health officials released Thursday details of four of these cases.
These four cases involve a family. One of this family is a resident of Allegheny County who is not vaccinated. The other three people, two children and one adult, visit the country from abroad. Children are not vaccinated and the adult would have been vaccinated.
The public may have been exposed to these people at the following locations and times:
- Milky Way Restaurant (2120 Murray Ave, Pittsburgh, PA 15217)
- Wednesday, April 17: 1 pm-4pm
- White and Blue Red Opportunity Store (935 Ohio River Boulevard, Pittsburgh, PA 15202)
- Wednesday, April 24: from 11:30 to 14:45
- National Aviary (700 Arch Street, Pittsburgh, PA 15212
- Sunday, April 28: 12:30 to 17:30
These exhibitions are in addition to the exhibitions initially announced at the following locations and times:
- Pittsburgh International Airport
- Tuesday 16th of April: 19h30-10h00
- Enterprise Rent-a-Car (2260 Babcock Blvd, Pittsburgh, PA 15237)
- Wednesday, May 1st from 14h to 17h
If a person not immunized against measles was exposed at the airport, she could have a rash between April 23 and May 7.

The Department of Health had previously released details of the first individual in Allegheny County who had been diagnosed with measles.
This person traveled abroad about two weeks before getting sick, and this case is not related to an ongoing measles outbreak in the United States.
The Ministry of Health has stated that the resident was potentially infectious as of April 25 and that potential exposures could occur at the following locations and times:
- Giant Eagle Market District (5550 Ave Center, Pittsburgh, PA 15232)
- Friday 26 April 2019: 18h30 – 21h
- Sunday, April 28, 2019: 14h45 – 17h
- ALDI (5631 Baum Blvd, Pittsburgh, PA 15206)
- Friday, April 26, 2019: 18:30 – 20:45
The Ministry of Health said anyone exposed to any of these places would begin to show symptoms by May 20.
Those most at risk for measles are infants under 1 year of age who are too young to have received the measles-mumps-rubella vaccine, people who have refused vaccination or who can not be vaccinated for reasons and people from regions of the world where immunization coverage is low or measles is circulating.
Anyone who is susceptible to measles or symptoms of measles is urged to contact their primary health care provider immediately, but not to go directly to an office, emergency care center or clinic. emergency room not to expose other people.
Measles is spread by coughing, sneezing or any other contact with the mucus or saliva of an infected person. Symptoms include rash, high fever, cough, and red, watery eyes.
Pregnant women should contact their doctor to know their immune status. Healthcare providers suspected of measles should call the Allegheny County Health Department.
The Centers for Disease Prevention and Control make the following recommendations for vaccination:
- Children 12 months and older should receive two doses, the first of 12 to 15 months and the second of 4 to 6 years.
- Medical staff, students and international travelers must receive two doses of MMR.
- Adults born during or after 1957 should receive at least one dose of ORR or documented evidence of the disease. Adults born before 1957 are considered immune.
- For international travel, infants from 6 to 11 months of age should receive a dose of MMR and children 12 months of age and older should receive 2 doses of MMR, spaced at least 28 days apart.
The measles vaccine is available at the Department of Health Immunization Clinic located on the fourth floor of 425 First Ave. in downtown Pittsburgh. The clinic is open from 9:00 to 16:00. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. It is open from 13h. at 8 pm Wednesday.
