Allen C. VeStrand

WESTFIELD – Allen C. VeStrand, 86, of Ellenton, Fla., Formerly of Westfield, NY, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 29, 2021, from a brief illness.

Allen was born September 30, 1934 in Jamestown, NY, the son of the late Robert and Lenea (Johnson) VeStrand.

Al was a member of the 1953 class where he attended Westfield Academy and Central School and then served his country with the US Air Force during the Korean conflict. He was honorably released in 1956.

Once Al returned home, he moved to Taunton, Massachusetts, and began working for ARMOR Bronze Inc. until he returned home to Chautauqua County.

Allen married the love of his life, Christine Silvia, on July 6, 1957, and together they raised four children.

Al had been employed by Renold, Inc. (formerly AJAX) in Westfield, NY, as an engineer since 1961 for several decades before his retirement.

He was an avid golfer, winning several trophies. When the weather permitted, Allen enjoyed gardening, especially taking care of flowers. He was a self-taught handyman capable of repairing and building just about anything, including wooden toys he built for his grandchildren, remodeling his homes, and creating his man caves.

Allen was a faithful parishioner of First Baptist Church in Westfield, NY for many years, until he and his wife settled in Florida and then became an active member of First Baptist Church in Palmetto, in Florida. He was always available to lend a hand whatever the task. He brought his smile and his sense of humor.

Allen is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years, Chris, his beloved children: Kathleen (Terry) Burns, Nancy (James) Zoda, Jeffrey (Jennifer) VeStrand and Sherri (Steve) Cochran. He has 13 grandchildren and five great grandchildren left to cherish his memory; brother, Rannie (Gail) VeStrand. Several nieces and nephews still survive.

In addition to his parents, Al was predeceased by his stepmother, Arlene VeStrand Ricketts; his brothers: Robert Dean and Ralph Austin VeStrand; a little sister and sister-in-law, Norma Jean VeStrand.

No prior visit will be observed, according to Allen’s wishes, all services will be held in private.
