CINCINNATI – As the number of ragweed increases and more people sneeze and cough, local doctors are warning people not to confuse COVID-19 with allergies.
In the spring, the main gift for someone with COVID-19 was the loss of at least one sense, most often smell. Now, say doctors, the delta variant has different symptoms.
Some of the symptoms of the delta strain of COVID-19 include fever, fatigue, cough, and shortness of breath. Doctors have said that these symptoms are much less severe if people are vaccinated. Loss of meaning is also not as common with this strain of the virus.
“A lot of people think they have sinus infections, it’s allergy season, it’s ragweed time, and they don’t. It’s COVID.” said Tiffany Mattingly, vice president of clinical strategies for the Health Collaborative. “By the time it becomes bad enough that someone decides to take a COVID test, they may have spread it to multiple people because a few days have passed.”
Health experts suggest that if you have a sore throat or think you have a sinus infection, take a COVID-19 test just in case.
