Allergy season expected to hit CT this spring

CONNECTICUT – Spring 2019 is expected to be a hell for allergy sufferers – and misery begins soon.

According to seasonal AccuWeather allergies, Connecticut and other parts of the East Coast will be hit by a high level of allergens, compounded by a rainy winter that has kept the soil wet.

"This will provide trees and grass with a lot of water, which will lead to a high pollen season in these areas," said AccuWeather meteorologist Alan Reppert.

A good start to spring means that the arrival of sneezing was delayed a little later than usual, he said. But when the pollen arrives, it'll be bad.

"The pollen seems to be coming out pretty fast and strong from April to May," he said.

In fact, AccuWeather predicts that the East Coast region of the Carolinas in Connecticut will be more affected by allergies than any other part of the country this year.

Here's how AccuWeather suggests relieving symptoms:

  • Stay inside in the morning

"Pollen is most important early in the morning, between 5 and 10 am," said Robert Sporter, a physician at ENT & Allergy Associates in New York, at AccuWeather.

Keep windows closed, filter air using air conditioning.

Some people with severe pollen allergies may have difficulty eating raw fruits and fresh fruits.

  • Take a first aid kit against allergies

Including over-the-counter products such as antihistamines and eye drops.
