The rollout of vaccination in the United States has accelerated, with the country now averaging more than 700,000 vaccinations per day, the highest rate in more than a month.
The daily average of Americans receiving their first doses is over 500,000, the highest in more than two months, according to the White House COVID-19 data director.
More than 195 million Americans have now received at least one dose of a Covid vaccine, which is just over half of the population.
Many states with high vaccination rates are also the ones currently facing a wave of COVID. In Louisiana, for example, vaccination rates have tripled in the past three weeks.
But it will take months to close the immunization gap if the United States continues to administer vaccines at its current rate.

About 715,000 doses of vaccine are given each day, the highest rate since July 7
As the United States faces an increase in the number of cases caused by the Indian ‘Delta’ variant, the demand for vaccines is increasing.
On August 10, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reported that 618,000 new doses had been given in the past day.
This is 36% more than the previous Tuesday, when 453,000 new doses were administered.
The United States is now averaging 715,000 doses per day, the highest rate since July 7.
Americans who receive their first injections make up the majority of those 715,000. The daily average for the first doses is 503,000 – the highest number in over two months.
“New people are getting vaccinated at the highest rate in over two months. Unite against COVID-19 ”, Cyrus Shahpar, White House data director on Covid-19 tweeted Tuesday.
Currently, 195.2 million Americans have now received at least one dose of a Covid vaccine, which is just over half of the country’s population.

Current demand for vaccines is being driven by the Delta surge, as evidenced by recent spikes in vaccination in the states that have been hardest hit.
In Florida, for example, vaccinations went from 40,000 doses per day in mid-July to 70,000 doses per day last week.
Florida is the site of 23% of new Covid cases in the country over the past week, although the state only represents 7% of the US population.
State hospitals are overwhelmed with patients and in some cases cancel elective surgeries.
As unvaccinated people in the state realize their risk of Covid, they may be more motivated to get vaccinated.
The situation is similar in Louisiana, also a major hotspot in the Delta. Daily vaccinations in Louisiana have tripled from 6,000 a day in mid-July to over 18,000 a day last month.
If Florida and Louisiana were independent countries, they would have the two highest cases per capita in the world.
Mississippi and Alabama are two other hard-hit and under-vaccinated states.
In both states, daily vaccinations jumped from around 5,000 in July to more than 10,000 last week.
While health experts are happy to see more people protecting themselves against Delta, vaccinations will need to continue at this rate for a long time to keep southern states catching up with better-vaccinated areas.
According to Bloomberg’s vaccination tracker, at the current vaccination rate in the United States, it would take six months for 75% of the population to be covered.
“Overall, we are seeing an increase in cases and hospitalizations across all age groups,” CDC director Dr Rochelle Walensky said at a press briefing Aug. 5.
“The people most at risk are those who have not yet been vaccinated.
“Now is the time to get vaccinated. We know these vaccines work and we know they save lives.
