Amazon plans to launch a chain of grocery stores across the United States later this year, according to a report released Friday.

According to an article in the Wall Street Journal, the channel, still unknown, will be distinct from the brand upmarket Whole Foods Market of Amazon.

Prices are expected to be lower and product lines broader than Whole Foods, obsessed with organic products.

The newspaper reports that the online trading giant kills the brand 365 from the Whole Foods chain.

The 365-year-old chain – also designed for budget-conscious shoppers – will see its nine outlets turn into Whole Foods by the end of the year.

"Whole Foods prices went down, so it did not make sense to separate the brands," said Anthony Chukumba, an analyst at Loop Capital Markets.

Amazon Go is a potentially more appealing model – the cashier-free convenience store launched in January 2018 to distribute snacks, salads and other takeaway foods.

Chukumba called the Amazon Go shopping experience "so easy."

"If they manage to put that into practice, it will be a homerun," he said.

Amazon declined to comment on a new chain of groceries, and it could not be learned if the plans included the use of Amazon Go's cashless technology and scanning robots.

The Journal announced that in addition to Los Angeles, the company was in talks for shopping malls in Chicago, Philadelphia, San Francisco, Seattle and Washington, DC.

Always aware of Amazon's penchant for DIY and testing, Chuck Grom, an analyst at Gordon Haskett, told The Post that he was not expecting the new company to have a "business deal". material impact on large grocery chains ".

Investors were not so sure.

While Amazon climbed 2% in Friday's trading, Kroger dropped 4.5%. Walmart fell by 1% and the Sprouts Farmers Market market by 0.5%.
