Amid spike in cases, state reports high COVID infections in parts of Oahu, Big Island

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – As the state reports a continued increase in COVID cases, authorities have mapped the communities that have recorded the highest number of cases in the past 14 days.

According to data from the state’s health department, the zip codes with the highest infections were found on the island of Oahu and Hawaii.

In Oahu, a high number of cases have been reported in communities in the west, center and windward of the island.

In the past 14 days, the following areas have seen over 100 cases of COVID:

  • Waianae – 172 cases
  • Ewa Beach – 151 cases
  • Hilo – 130 cases
  • Kailua -Kona – 130 cases
  • Kapolei – 128 cases
  • Kaneohe – 114 cases
  • Wahiawa – 105 cases

As the state sees an increase in infections, state and health officials have urged residents to get vaccinated, especially since most new cases of COVID are linked to those who are not. vaccinated.

The increase in the number of cases also came as Hawaii reported 622 cases of COVID on Friday.

“It’s an alarming number of cases. The pandemic is not over, ”Governor David Ige said. “If you have not been vaccinated, please do so.”

According to the state’s health director, Dr Libby Char, she said the state was witnessing “widespread community transmission.”
