Amy Adams has responded to reviews on her new movie Hillbilly Elegy, telling audiences the movie’s message is meant to ‘transcend politics’.
The Netflix film – adapted from a 2016 memoir of the same name – was criticized by critics for what they called an insensitive portrayal of poverty in rural Appalachia.
But Adams, 46, and teammate Glenn Close, 73, defended Ron Howard’s project in a conversation with NME, telling the site the film is so much more than the running story.

When asked if people who didn’t agree with the film’s’ politics’ could still enjoy the project, the two-time Golden Globe winner said, ‘I think the themes of this film are very universal.
“ Whether it’s a generational trauma, whether it’s just looking at where we’ve come from to understand where we’re going and who we are.
“I think the universality of the film’s themes far transcends politics.”
Close went on to explain how the film was never intended to gain political advantage.
