The boy and his brother were playing outside on the trampoline Wednesday night in Bailey, southwest of Denver, when the 8-year-old boy heard a friend calling from the neighbor's house, announced Colorado Parks & Wildlife in a press release.

The lion attacked the child, biting him in the head while he was running to visit the friend, officials said.

The boy's brother ran inside and told his father that something had sounded.

"The father rushed out and found the mountain lion at the top of his son.The mountain lion gave up the child while the father was approaching and running away", have said officials.

The child was taken to the hospital, officials said.

Wildlife agents laid a lion trap and deployed a team of dogs that searched for two hours but could not, initially, capture the scent of the animal to follow it.

On Thursday, an owner near the attack announced that his goat was gone and had seen two mountain lions. The wildlife officers responded and found the two lions matching the description of the lion that had attacked the 8-year-old boy. Both animals were euthanized, wildlife officials said.

The officials will conduct a necropsy on the lions and send them to a forensic laboratory in Wyoming for DNA analysis.

The boy's run probably triggered the "lion's natural reaction to running for prey," said Regional Wildlife Director Mark Lamb.

Since 1990, there have been 22 mountain lion attacks against humans in Colorado, including three deaths, wildlife officials said. Three attacks took place this year, including one on 10 August north-east of Kremmling, wildlife officials said.
