An Australian family had a stroke of luck when she found a gold nugget – valued at tens of thousands of dollars – while she was walking her dog on Sunday.
The father and two daughters of the family, who asked to remain anonymous, had gone out with their dog, ironically named "Lucky", when they discovered the expensive nugget.

The father said that they had weighed the nugget in a nearby supermarket because they could find no place to weigh it properly. The gold nugget weighed 20 ounces, or 1.25 pounds – a value the family claims to be over $ 24,000.
"Selling it like a set of nuggets is probably worth a little more than that," he told reporters. "We went through difficult times, so it's really good because we had financial difficulties, it could not be a better timing really."
The "lucky" discovery of the family was only the last time an Australian discovered he had discovered a gold nugget.
In September, a retired man discovered a gold nugget worth about $ 80,000 in North Goldfields, Western Australia. It had been years since he was looking for a metal detector in the area and it had taken him two hours to extract the nugget from the ground.
