A student who was doing an internship in Washington DC during the summer was stabbed mortally during a seemingly random attack Tuesday, police reported and information.
Margery Magill, 27, was walking a dog that she was nursing on Irving Street, in the northwestern part of the city, just before 9 pm. when Eliyas Aregahegne, 24, would have stabbed her to death, reported NBC Washington.
Police and medical staff responded to the call and took her to a nearby hospital, where she died, police officers said.
Police arrested Aregahegne on Wednesday for the murder and accused him of first-degree murder, authorities said.
Police said on Wednesday that she thought the murder was a random attack and not an attempted robbery or sexual assault, according to the NBC report.
A member of Magill's family told the news channel that she was a student at the University of California at Davis and was in the nation's capital during her summer internship.
"She loved the city. She loved energy. She really wanted to build her career here and take advantage of the energy that prevailed in Washington, DC, "said her sister, Raeann Magill, on the television channel.
