MASON, Ohio – An Ohio family and community mourn the loss of a 10-year-old girl who died this week after being diagnosed with strep throat and influenza.

WXIX reports that Sand Gibson was diagnosed early Tuesday morning and school officials said it led to cardiac arrest later in the day.

In a social media publication, Mason City Schools said, "Join us in keeping the Gibson family at the center of our daily thoughts and prayers as she navigates these very difficult days. Sand, their youngest grade four student, died last night after being diagnosed with strep and flu on Tuesday morning, resulting in a heart attack Tuesday afternoon. "

The position also indicated that the school would have additional counselors.

WKRC said Sable was the youngest of six children in the family and school officials said she was "really kind to everyone."
