SHELBY, N.C. (KRON) – Have you ever slept in your contact lenses?
An ophthalmologist shares some pictures to show you why you should not sleep with your soft contact lenses.
In a Facebook publication, the Vita Eye Clinic published photos showing intimate and personal photos of an infected eye of someone who needed urgent medical attention.
The person was diagnosed with a pseudomonas ulcer in culture, which is "the direct result of sleeping in contact lenses".
In the photos, the eye appears green because of a fluorescent dye that ends up clustering "in corneal compromise areas, in this case the bed of ulcer," said the doctor .
According to the eye clinic, bacteria from pseudomonas can be the source of many eye diseases and even permanent blindness.
In this case, the doctor stated that this infection only took about 36 hours.
"This will be the 4th case of cultivated pseudomonas that I have treated in my clinic," the message continues.
"The bacterium gnaws explosively at the patient's cornea in a few days, leaving behind a white necrosis and covered with tissue (dead tissue).," The doctor said.
The doctor said that although the person's eye shows signs of improvement, "it will likely show a lesser form of residual vision even after treatment."
So, if you feel very tired after a long day, remember that it only takes a few seconds to delete your contacts.
"The risks outweigh the benefits every time.It takes a few seconds to delete your contacts, but a lifetime of irreversible damage if you decide to let them in. Users need to see these images and remember / their loved ones / friends must also be informed misuse of purpose, "said the doctor.
Doctors say that contacts for use during the night should be prescribed, but this is only recommended if the person has specific "medical or functional needs".
