Ahead of the Los Angeles Clippers’ back-to-back games at Chase Center last week, Kawhi Leonard had committed just seven total turnovers in six games played.
But in a single night against the Warriors, Leonard tied that tally, with seven turnovers in Los Angeles’ 108-101 win. Warriors head coach Steve Kerr spoke to reporters after practice Saturday about the importance of defending Wiggins, along with his starting colleague Kelly Oubre, to face teams like the Clippers this season.
“His defense has been excellent for us,” Kerr told reporters on Saturday. “We really need him, we really need Andrew, and it’s such a relief for me as a coach after last year not to have the horses to face Paul Georges and Kawhi Leonards of the world, what a relief to know that I have Kelly (Oubre) and Andrew to defend themselves on the wings.
“What I love about the two guys is that they took on the challenge of keeping the best guys and getting the job done.”

The Warriors split the pair in San Francisco with the Clippers, rebounding to claim a 10-point win on Friday night behind Steph Curry’s 38 points.
Wiggins is also averaging 17.6 points per game on the attacking side and making 40.5% of his attempts from 3 points. He is listed as questionable for the Warriors game with the Toronto Raptors on Sunday night due to pain in his feet, but Athletic’s Anthony Slater reported that Wiggins is “likely” to play.
If the Warriors can get a little more Oubre offensively and both players can keep their defense strong, elite opposing wings like Leonard will continue to struggle when matching up with the Warriors.
