Anki has been one of the leading companies in this new era of smartphone-connected toys, alongside Sphero. Unfortunately, Anki no longer has money and closes his doors.

Anki has manufactured several toys in recent years, including "Overdrive" racing cars, the adorable Pixar-type Cozmo robot (we've reviewed the collectors edition) and the vector connected to the internet. The company has also released licensed versions of their products, such as the Fast & Furious Overdrive game.

According to a report by Recode, Anki CEO Boris Sofman told all employees on Monday that they would be laid off on Wednesday and nearly 200 people would be paid a one-week layoff. The company told Recode: "A significant financial agreement has been reached with a strategic investor and we have not been able to come to an agreement, we are doing our best to take care of every employee and their families, and our management team continues to explore all available options. "

We have contacted Anki, but we do not yet know if the company's products will continue to work. The Vector robot directly uses Internet services and other Anki products also rely on smartphone apps for all features.

It 's sad to see the company sink, especially as its toy robots are (for the most part) excellent products. I sincerely hope that all employees find success in other companies.
