Antigua and Bermuda Among Popular Destinations Rated “Very High” Risk by CDC

(CNN) – Antigua and Barbuda in the Caribbean and Bermuda in the Atlantic were added to the “very high” risk category on the regularly updated list of US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s travel advisories on Monday. .

The South American country of Guyana was the other new entry in the “Level 4: Very high Covid-19” category.

People should avoid going to places designated with a “level 4” notice, recommends the CDC. Anyone who needs to travel should first be fully vaccinated, the agency advises.

Almost 90 destinations are now listed in the highest risk category. Destinations that fall under the Level 4 “Very High Covid-19” category have recorded more than 500 cases per 100,000 population in the past 28 days, according to CDC criteria.

The three new destinations added to level 4 on September 20 are:

• Antigua and Barbuda
• Bermuda
• Guyana

They were all in the Level 3 category last week. The Level 3 category applies to destinations that have recorded between 100 and 500 cases per 100,000 population in the past 28 days.

CDC travel advisories range from level 1 (“low”) to level 4 (“very high”).

New “Level 3” destinations

On Monday, seven destinations were upgraded to Level 3 category:

• Andorra
• Bonaire
• Colombia
• Kuwait
• New Caledonia
• Sao Tome and Principe
• Ukraine

In three of those locations – Andorra, Colombia and Kuwait – the Covid-19 situation has improved, with the CDC moving them from level 4 to level 3.

Four of the destinations are now at increased risk: New Caledonia has moved from level 1, while Bonaire, São Tomé and Príncipe and Ukraine were previously in the level 2 risk category.

In its broader travel guidelines, the CDC recommended avoiding all international travel until you are fully immunized.

“Fully vaccinated travelers are less likely to contract and spread Covid-19. However, international travel poses additional risks, and even fully vaccinated travelers may be at increased risk of contracting and possibly spreading certain variants of Covid-19. “the agency said.

The CDC is expected to issue a contact tracing order requiring airlines to collect information from travelers to the United States, the White House said in its announcement on Monday.

CDC travel risk advisories do not include a risk rating for the United States.
