Addressing an empathic audience of seven other people, in addition to an HBO film crew, Antonio Brown once again attacked Ben Roethlisberger and the Pittsburgh Steelers by telling of his side history that led to the pending divorce of his organization.
Brown was invited to an episode of "The Shop", a half-hour show hosted by LeBron James and his associate Maverick Carter, which debuted Friday night on HBO. Brown did not speak during the first 11 minutes of the broadcast episode, much of this first part while he was getting haircut in the hair salon style.
Brown again lamented Roethlisberger for calling after an interception in the end zone at the last minute of a defeat in November in Denver. This prompted Carter to ask, "Why would Ben do that? What's going on with that? "
"(That's the kind of guy he's in," replied Brown. "He feels like the owner.
& # 39; & # 39; Bro, you threw the (expletive) to the D-lineman. What is the (expletive)? I am here wide open. You have to give me a better ball. "
Brown seemed to imply that he was "acting" – at the request of an employee of the team – when, later in the week, he defended Roethlisberger's comments on his 93.7 FM radio show in which he declared that Brown had to "follow a flatter path".
"You're going to have a guy on the team who will say, 'Boy, you can not say anything,'" said Brown. "I need you to go out like …" But it's like, why do I have to play? At least, ask a guy how he feels first.
Explaining his absence from the team in the last two training sessions before the final of the season to win in December, Brown said his coach, Mike Tomlin, told him to leave – a move that irritated Brown.
"I meet coach Tomlin and I tell him," Hey, man, I'm a little shaky, so I'll need some time to get it right, "said Brown." So, he says: "If you're dead, man, you know, you can go home …" Like, "You do not even have to be here."
"So … I'm going to make war for these guys, putting my life in danger, and it's like, he's a stranger when he calls me, like right now, the articles. And it's like, you know what I mean, they control the story. … they could just paint you in any way then. And that's what people do not know is that you know, it's a controlled environment in which they could somehow decide whether they want to let me eat or not.
Earlier, Brown had not had the opportunity to answer Carter's question on whether there was "any shot" that Brown would come back to play for the Steelers. Instead, James interrupted and replied, "We did not plan his return to Pittsburgh."
Outside of Roethlisberger and his specific problem with Tomlin asking him to go home instead of practicing, Brown never specified who was pulling his anger the most. He has often referred to an "they" that could be interpreted as either the organization or the media.
At one point he was angry, some were upset. He showed up at the Steelers Finals at Heinz Field in a fur coat and not in team outfit.
"They do not like you (when you are) yourself," Brown said. "They talk about my furs. Like, who does not like getting screwed? That's why we work hard, you know what I say? They are like, "Oh, he came to the game (fur) … Look, yo, no matter what I come with.
"But that's the story they're trying to create. Once you do your own thing, it's like, "Yo, this guy is a distraction. He's that kind of guy.
While Brown intervened at other times during the episode, the party who was treating him and his situation with the Steelers lasted about 4 minutes.
New Orleans star Anthony Davis, rappers Meek Mill and 2 Chainz, comedian / actor / singer Jamie Foxx and comedian / actor Jerrod Carmichael were also in the first season of the series.
"All I've ever been, it's a guy who came from central Michigan, sixth round, who worked hard," Brown said. "That's all."
James marveled at how Brown became a future Hall of Fame after being ranked 195th overall in 2010.
"Three contracts later," said Brown, "you know, I treat the game, do you know what I say?"
James nodded, serenely concluding the discussion around Brown: "And now, he's suddenly distracted."
