Apple plans to work with Hyundai on the next Apple Car, according to a report from Korea’s Korea Economic Daily.

Apple and Hyundai functionality

The report suggests that Apple is in negotiations with Hyundai Motor Group to manufacture an “Apple Car”. Apple plans to work with Hyundai to produce electric vehicles and develop batteries because of the “huge costs” of the technology and production facilities required.

Several earlier rumors have suggested that Apple will work with a manufacturing partner to produce the “Apple Car,” but so far it’s unclear which manufacturer Apple might partner with. Since the report mentions “negotiations,” a deal may not yet be reached, so Apple’s plans may change.

An ‌Apple Car‌ report earlier today Bloomberg said work on the project is still in its early stages and “far from production,” and that there was no mention of Hyundai. According to Bloomberg, it will take at least five to seven years before an “Apple Car” is ready to be launched.

Update: In a statement to CNBC, Hyundai confirmed that he is in discussion with Apple. “We understand that Apple is in discussions with various global automakers, including Hyundai Motor. As the discussion is in its early stages, nothing has been decided.”
