Apple Inc. won a ruling that dismissed a $ 308.5 million patent infringement verdict after a federal judge said the iPhone maker fell victim to a plan by a company to milk the tech industry for high royalties on old ideas.

This company, Personalized Media Communications LLC, owns a patent for digital rights management which is unenforceable because the company intentionally delayed its application to the US Patent and Trademark Office so that it can get more money later, Judge of U.S. District Rodney Gilstrap in Marshall, Texas, ruled. Gilstrap said Personalized Media “won’t take anything” and will have to cover some of Apple’s legal fees instead.
