Apple Watch could finally add sleep tracking next year

Battery life is one of the biggest hurdles that Apple would have to overcome before launching. The Apple Watch currently runs for a day with a single charge, while rival smartwatches with sleep monitoring capabilities enjoy a battery life for a week with a full tank. According to Gurman, this means that Apple could opt for a larger battery or add a low power setting for the sleep mode because you will not obviously use it when you sleep.

Rumors about an Apple Watch sleep monitoring feature have been circulating since 2016. They were magnified in 2017 after the takeover of Beddit, the maker of a sleep tracking device, as well as the associated iOS and Watch apps. The start-up has launched its first post-acquisition product – a thin sensor strip that goes under the sheets to monitor everything from sleep patterns to snoring – last August.

For its part, health is Apple's new frontier. And in these times of high intensity, sleep is the holy grail for many hardworking professionals. After adding an electronic ballast to the Apple Watch 4, the tech giant could take another small step forward in setting its benchmarks for wellness in 2020.
