Apple’s latest MagSafe accessory is a $ 99 iPhone 12 battery

Apple has quietly started selling a MagSafe battery for its iPhone 12 line. , the new accessory costs $ 99, with shipments starting early next week. Instead of a case you put on your iPhone, this latest battery attaches to the back of your device.

The accessory is available in one size that has a 1460mAh battery which means it cannot change any model in the iPhone 12 family. When you use the battery on the go, it will charge your phone at approx. 5 watts. Plugging it into a power adapter while it’s still connected to your iPhone will boost that speed to around 15 watts. Either way, it’s not the fastest way to charge an iPhone 12, but it should still help in a pinch.

According to an official, you need iOS 14.7 to use the battery. Apple has yet to release this update. The company also recommends using a 20-watt or greater USB-C power adapter and USB-C to Lightning cable to charge the device.

When connected to your iPhone, you’ll see how much power it has left to deliver on the battery widget that you can add to your Home screen and Today view. Interestingly, Apple also notes that you may receive a notification from your device that the accessory will not charge it beyond 90%. You can bypass this activation limit in low power mode through the control center.

Apple isn’t the first company to offer a battery that magnetically attaches to the iPhone 12 and its siblings. However, after Amazon hit its market earlier in the year, these have been harder to find. And if you visit the website now, you will find that many of the batteries listed do not have estimated availability.
