April O’Neil is finally playable in TMNT: Shredder’s Revenge

Listen, I’m excited about Saints Street and Marvel: Midnight Suns and all other big announcements from Gamescom’s Opening Night Live storefront. But my favorite ad of all concerns Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge. Yes, today Geoff Keighley revealed that for the first time in a TMNT Intrepid television reporter and passionate about suits April O’Neil will crack the skulls of the Foot Clan alongside her mutant reptilian friends.

Shredder’s Revenge was revealed earlier this year and immediately became highly anticipated among those who loved the legendary Konami TMNT 80s and 90s beat-em-up. With pixelated visuals and vibrant colors, Shredder’s Revenge clearly seeks to follow in the footsteps of those games, in which you played as Raphael (or another turtle if you like the less cool) as you weave your way through hordes of Foot Clan soldiers, sometimes leaping into time, and still ultimately save the day of the villainous Shredder and his cronies.

However, poor April O’Neil never had much to do in these games other than being in danger and needing to be saved. Today’s reveal not only showed that she is joining the roster of playable characters, but indicated that developer Tribute Games brings the same level of care to their attacks and animations that they bring to titular heroes.

In the reveal trailer, you not only see her unleashing powerful bursts of kicks, punches, and spinning attacks, but at one point, she drops the literal mic (a tool of the trade in his work as a journalist) on a Foot Clan soldier. . One of the highlights of the original trailer was seeing how each of the four turtles have distinct racing animations that indicate their distinctive personalities (naturally, Raphael has the coolest and fiercest), so he’s great. to see April receiving the same attention.

There are reasons to hope Shredder’s Revenge, with Dotemu overseeing the publishing tasks on the game. They have been involved in a number of games in recent years that seek to pay homage to the past while still feeling fresh and current, among them the greats of 2017 Wonder Boy: The Dragon’s Trap (a remake of a Sega Master System classic from 1989) and the 2020s Streets of Rage 4. Shredder’s Revenge is scheduled for a 2022 version for PC and Switch.
