Late in Monday night’s game between the Rams and the Buccaneers, Tampa Bay center AQ Shipley was out and guard Ryan Jensen had returned to his original center position. The show did not mention an injury, although it seemed obvious something had happened.

After the game, Buccaneers coach Bruce Arians played down Shipley’s injury.

“He just had a sting,” Arians said at the time. “Looks like he’s going to be fine.”

Wednesday night, the Arians had a more disastrous assessment.

“AQ Shipley appears to have had a career-ending injury,” Arians told SiriusXM NFL Radio, via JoeBucsFan.com. “And I feel bad because I love AQ. He’s one of my favorite players of all time and he was playing well for us. But I think it was a previous injury that could have worsened to the neck.

The Arians intended to use Shipley in the middle and Jensen on guard until guard Ali Marpet returned from a concussion. Those plans will apparently change, unless Marpet can return for Sunday’s game against the Chiefs.

The Buccaneers did not practice on Wednesday. The team felt that Marpet would have fully participated in the practice.
