– People who are considering using a certain slow cooker as a pressure cooker for Thanksgiving meals should put them aside immediately, the Consumer Product Safety Commission said. Sunbeam Products is recalling its Crock-Pot Express Crock 6-liter multi-cookers due to an issue with the lid that has caused at least 99 injuries, including first degree burns, reports CBS News. The CPSC says the appliance lid does not always lock properly, which can “cause the lid to come off suddenly while using the product, posing a burn hazard to consumers from hot food and liquids ejected from the product ”. The agency says consumers should contact Crock-Pot immediately for a free replacement cover.
More than 900,000 of the slow cookers were sold in the United States by retailers such as Walmart, Target and Amazon between July 2017 and this month, reports NBC Boston. Almost 30,000 have been sold in Canada. The CPSC said the recall affects model SCCPPC600-V1, a number listed on a label at the bottom of the device. It indicates that the ranges have the date codes K196JN to K365JN and L001JN to L273JN, which appears on a pin of the electrical outlet and at the bottom of the base. The agency says consumers waiting for a new lid should “immediately stop using the recalled Crock-Pot in pressure cooker mode, but may continue to use it for slow cooking and stir-frying.” (Read more product recall stories.)
