Where I walk and pray is in the countryside, from my neighborhood to a wildlife management area.
So this morning, as I was praying for my son, I thought of a time several years ago when I challenged him to a race or vice versa. We started out with the goal of going about three miles. At about a mile he had a huge lead because he started really fast, but about the two mile mark I passed him and the rest is history. If he had arranged it, the outcome might have been different. I was like the tortoise and he the hare, in a way.
There are people who live their spiritual life like that; they ignite by wanting to do everything and be everything. But it doesn’t take long to burn out and discouragement sets in.
Hebrews 12 says: “Run with perseverance the course which is drawn up for us.” Some people think badly with finances; they invest hoping to make a lot of money in a short period of time instead of letting their money grow over time.
The author of Proverbs addresses this in chapter 21 and verse 5 where he says, “The plans of the diligent lead to profit as surely as haste leads to poverty.” I like the way the Living Bible says, “Constant effort brings prosperity; hasty speculation brings poverty ”.
Some rush into a serious relationship without having time to get to know the other person and it often ends in tragedy.
So as you approach any area of life, do you live like the turtle or do you live like the hare? The good news is, if you need to change, you can, and there’s no better time than today.
